The Best Steak In London. A Local's Guide For Visitors

10 Sep 2016

Although it’s a somewhat traditional meal, that doesn’t mean it’s going out of style anytime soon, and if anyone expects some true steak perfection its London’s locals. Whether you like it tender blue, juicy rare, char-grill frazzled or tartar with bento, London has it, and with so many meaty joints to choose from in this capital city, we’ve shortlisted a few finalists for your visit.

The Traditional one - The Guinea Mayfair

Having pinpointed the key to steak selling success back in the 1950s, and having since sourced prime scotch beef for over sixty years, this long established restaurant excels in delivering prime corn fed Aberdeen Angus steaks to its customer. They seem pretty clued up on their meaty knowledge, from beef marbling to dry ageing, and they even log their steak data in their ‘Scotch Beef Club’ book once it reaches the restaurant. With porterhouse, rump, sirloin, rib bone and filet to choose from, this is definitely one to visit if you’re looking for a mouth-watering, traditional British steak, cooked to perfection.

The Exotic One - 2K Steakhouse

This Argentinian themed restaurant is perfect if you’re looking for an iron fix with a twist. Co-run by three die hard steak fans – or more experts – with a passion for Argentinian cuisine, this place is definitely for anyone who wants to sample some truly authentic melt-in-mouth meat. The simple and clean-cut and somehow still rustic joint offers a real Argentinian dining experience right in the heart of London – delicious!

The Organic One – Smith’s of Smithfield

A Four Story Meat Mansion, this restaurant offers some rare cuts, including British White ribeye, South Devon fillet and Charolaise rump – enough to drive even the most experienced foodie mad! They run on the notion that organic by no means has to translate into meat free, and they seem to have stuck to that, with a huge range of delicious, ethically farmed steaks cooked to order, and they even dish up some impressively hearty sharing joints – yum.

The Raw One - Engawa

A Japanese take on Steak dinner, this restaurant uses the delicatessen delight ‘Wagyu’ or Kobe beef, known for its high marbled fat content, to make its authentic Japanese dishes melt-in-the-mouth delicious. It’s a bit pricier than your average steak supper, but well worth it. Only three thousand cows a year qualify for Kobe standard, with as few as thirty being exported from Japan, and this company does the butchering themselves, meaning they can offer customers some really unique cuts. The Piccadilly based restaurant offers a set menu using this sought-after delicacy in their quaint but modern eatery.

The Posh One – Hawksmoor

An absolute treat for all steak lovers, enthusiasts, foodies and more, this upmarket Covent Garden restaurant offers what is arguably some of the finest steak dining in London. With all the classics on offer, including a delectable surf and turf option which consists of a 300g fillet steak with half a grilled lobster smothered in garlic butter, this joint is the real deal. Add to this the impressive collection of sauces the offer too, from bone marrow gravy to anchovy hollandaise, and the option of sharing a larger cut with friends (including T bone and Porterhouse) and you’re sure to be in beef heaven.
